The Lower School
The Lower School (Reception to Year 2) follows the guidelines of the National Curriculum, with our emphasis being on Numeracy and Literacy. The children also learn through constructive play. Reading is fundamental to all aspects of education and this is our main consideration. Children read either to the class teacher or an assistant on a regular basis and are encouraged to take reading books home to parents.
In the first two years the children are asked to do a small amount of homework, in that they may be asked to read, learn spellings or find out specific information. In Year 2, this is extended to include grammar and number work, although this is not expected to take on average more than 15 minutes an evening.
The children also experience a variety of other subjects such as Science, Humanities, and Information Technology. There are specialist teachers for Art, Music and PE and the children are encouraged to participate in every aspect of the curriculum.
